Charlie's A3 S-Line

January 29, 2017

Charlie got in touch asking for some application photos to get him into some shows this year, of course, I was more than happy to oblige.

I already had an idea in mind which involved some light painting and saw it as the perfect opportunity to have a go. So we met up in Peterborough under sub-zero temperatures and got to work. I also brought along Ben from Last Man Standing to shoot some video on his RED Epic. Here are the results.

. Audi A3 S-Line
. Hydro Suspension from Rayvern Hydraulics
. Stage 2 Remap @ 220 bhp Maxtreme, Wisbech
. Milltek Exhaust / Ram Air Induction Kit
. Dipped Engine Bay / Rotiform BLQ's

For the light painting I used on old LED video light I've had for years. It's the cheap one you can pick up on Amazon that takes about 20 AA batteries, but it gives off a good amount of light. I figured I'd try it with this before making any rash decisions and going for a more expensive light. I took multiple exposures and lit up different areas of the car.

Whilst I was processing the images I figured that although the amount of light the LED put out was good, it was too small of a source to produce nice, even lines over the car. So I ended up with much thinner light trails, this is ok, but not quite the effect I was after. I know what I'm going to try next so will have an update on my technique then.

For the main feature shot I used the Sigma 24-70mm to get a nice wide shot and wanted to make sure I had the train in focus in the background so shot at f22 with 30 second exposures. The rest of the images were all taken with my 50mm f1.4 using the LED to cast extra light on the car.

Euro Trip Part 2: Golden Hour Street Photography in Senlis
May 8, 2025

Part two of our road trip took us from the Netherlands back into France, landing us just an hour away from our final destination (more of that in Part 3). The drive itself wasn’t packed with sights, there were a few interesting landmarks along the way but most of the magic happened once we arrived in the town of Senlis.

We recently took another road trip into Europe with our first and furthest stop being the Netherlands, finishing things off in France. We of coarse spent some time in Zwolle, and the early spring light was hitting just right. I took a few photos with my Fujifilm X-A1 and wanted to share some here.

A Rainy Day in Amsterdam
January 11, 2025

Right before Christmas I gave myself a day off in Amsterdam, I had dreams of going for a frosty photowalk, capturing festive moments around the city with Christmas shoppers and winter tourists. What I ended up with was getting completely drenched and taking lots of hazy, moody photos. You can’t win them all, but I wanted to share what I got regardless.
