Birds, Boats & Broads

November 10, 2022

During the October half term I took some overdue time off to do something I’ve never done before, nor something I would ever imagine someone trusting me to do. Take a very large boat across the Norfolk Broads, unsupervised.

That’s right! It would appear they give out boat keys to pretty much anyone, so we took those keys and headed straight to the water for a week.

Of course I had a medley of camera gear with me (it’s never really time off when it’s your job and your hobby to document things) and for this trip I had my Canon 6D Mk2 along with my new favourite relic, the Fujifilm X10.

The beauty of this trip was that we didn’t have to be anywhere. We could take our time getting from place to place and when we wanted to stop, just choose a spot to moor up and crack open a cold one. Each stop along the way felt like a sleepy waterside town, I imagine that had something to do with the time of year we went. Something tells me it’s a little less sleepy during peak times. But that was the beauty of it, we had all the time in the world to travel, stop, explore and continue on our way. Well, almost, there was that one time where we were racing against sunset to find a place to moor for the night and very nearly almost had to do boating in the dark. But we made it, we just don’t like to talk about it.

So enjoy a few photos from the trip documenting our travels from various places along the way. And if you’ve never been before, I’d advise you to do it. By the end of the week we felt like experienced, weathered sailors, ready to take on any conditions and with enough newly acquired knowledge on local birds and wildlife we would make Steve Backshall proud.

Euro Trip Part 2: Golden Hour Street Photography in Senlis
May 8, 2025

Part two of our road trip took us from the Netherlands back into France, landing us just an hour away from our final destination (more of that in Part 3). The drive itself wasn’t packed with sights, there were a few interesting landmarks along the way but most of the magic happened once we arrived in the town of Senlis.

We recently took another road trip into Europe with our first and furthest stop being the Netherlands, finishing things off in France. We of coarse spent some time in Zwolle, and the early spring light was hitting just right. I took a few photos with my Fujifilm X-A1 and wanted to share some here.

A Rainy Day in Amsterdam
January 11, 2025

Right before Christmas I gave myself a day off in Amsterdam, I had dreams of going for a frosty photowalk, capturing festive moments around the city with Christmas shoppers and winter tourists. What I ended up with was getting completely drenched and taking lots of hazy, moody photos. You can’t win them all, but I wanted to share what I got regardless.
